Eighth children’s international film festival begins tomorrow

The eighth edition of the International Children’s Film Festival will be held from January 24-30 simultaneously in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

More than 200 children’s films from 48 countries will be screened at the week-long festival organised by Children’s Film Society (CFS) Bangladesh.

With the theme “Dreams of Future in Frames”, the festival will be held at 10 venues. 

With Mustafa Monwar, chairman of the festival advisory council, in the chair, Finance Minister AMA Muhith will inaugurate the festival this afternoon as chief guest at the Public Library. While Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will attend the programme as special guest.

The festival’s Director Raid Morshed briefed journalists about the programme at a press conference at the Public Library premises in the capital yesterday.

Three films will be screened every day. All the screenings are open for children and their parents, he said.

Thirty films by Bangladeshi children have been selected for competitive section this year.  A five-member jury board consisting of children will judge the films for awards, he added. 

The festival also features an international competition among 13 foreign films.

A three member jury board headed by film maker Manzaray Hasin will judge the films.

Winners will be awared with prizes respected by dignitaries,  including Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and Mustafa Monwar.
