Police arrested a leader of Islamic Chhatra Shibir of Chittagong University (CU) unit from Andarkillah area in Chittagong city yesterday night for vandalism during hartal hours in 2013.
The arrestee, Khandakar Munir Hossen, a final year student of CU Anthropology department, is accused of four cases in which two were lodged with Kotwali police station and two others with Hathazari police station, said police sources. Munir Hossen is the organising secretary of a sub-unit of CU Shibir unit, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Assistant Commissioner (Kotwali Circle) Shah Mohammed Abdur Rauf.
Police arrested Munir from the area around 11pm following on a tip off.
Nezam Uddin, inspector (investigation) of Kotwali police station, said the Shibir leader was produced before a Chittagong court seeking five-day remand while the court sent him to the jail keeping the remand hearing pending.
