Update : 06 Dec 2014, 06:04 PM

A two-day film festival starts at the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus from today aiming to raise funds for the winter distressed population of the country.

The Social Welfare Club under the Institute of Business Administration of JU has arranged the festival.

The festival will be inaugurated by the chief advisor of the club IBA Associate Professor Sheikh Mohammed Rafiul Huque at 3pm at the Zahir Raihan Auditorium today.

Six Bangla and foreign language films (each day three films) will be screened during the festival.

Sheikh Mohammad Rafiul Huque told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have arranged this film festival as a part of our regular social welfare activities. It is our responsibility to stand beside the winter distressed people so that no one suffers from cold.”

Vice-President of the club Mushfiq Abdullah said: “This year we hope to raise a fund of Tk1.5 lakh through the festival which will be used to collect and distribute winter clothes among the poor people living in the northern districts of Bangladesh.”

SWC of IBA-JU was awarded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency in 2011 for raising funds for the Tsunami affected people in Japan.
