The agitated students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have gone back to their classes on Thursday as Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman assured them to resolve the ongoing crisis.
They also gave an ultimatum to meet their demands by November 24.
BAU students have been staging movements under the banner of ‘Sharbostarer Chhatra Janata,' demanding the immediate arrest and punishment of outsiders who allegedly staged a showdown on the campus on Monday evening.
The protesting students said a delegation of students met Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman, also the syndicate member of BAU, at his residence in Mymensingh town on Wednesday evening where the minister assured the students to resolve the crisis as early as possible.
“We are withdrawing our class-exam boycott programme until November 24 as the religious affairs minister assured us to take the necessary steps against the hoodlums who carried out terrorist activities in our peaceful campus,” spokesperson of the movement Tayaf Riyad said.
“Considering the enrollment process of the freshers under the 2014-15 academic year which is scheduled to be held on November 23, we have decided to withdraw our programme,” he said.
Activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Mymensingh district unit led by its president Md Jasim Uddin with around 20-25 motorbikes staged a showdown on the campus on Monday around 6pm. They also exploded two crude bombs and fired two rounds of bullets in front of the Shaheed Nazmul Ahsan Hall.
