Teachers of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) yesterday demanded the implementation of the pay scale that was drafted recently with a new pay structure for the 1.3 million civil servants of the country.
The BAU teachers urged the authorities concerned to implement the new pay scale from July 2014 instead of July 2015.
The eighth pay and service commission drafted the pay scale recently and Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on September 23 said the new scale for government employees would come into effect from 1 July 2015.
The demand came from a gathering of teachers on the BAU campus around 11am. BAU Teachers’ Association (Bauta) organised the programme where over 150 teachers took part. Several employee associations of the university expressed their solidarity with the demand.
“The existing pay scale is not up to the mark as price of the daily essentials is on the rise. We would like to thank the incumbent government for taking timely initiatives to form a structure of new pay scale,” said Bauta President Prof Dr Lutful Hassan. BAU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Hoque in his speech urged the government to implement the drafted pay scale as early as possible.
