Viqarunnisa Noon College wins the UNFPA Debate Festival 2014

Viqarunnisa Noon College won the UNFPA Debate Festival 2014 that ended at the National Academy for Educational Management auditorium yesterday.  

Following the parliamentary format, the final was held on the topic “Investing in young people is the only key to developing future” where Holy Cross College and Viqarunnisa Noon College took part as the opposition and government team respectively. 

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid attended the session as the chief guest while UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) representative to Bangladesh Argentina Matavel Piccin presided over the programme. 

Argentina said: “Bangladesh, which is an intellectual society, should invest in the youth.”

Nahid said: “If we want to build a developed and modern nation we have to be concerned about our young generation who are the future leaders of the country. I promise and hope to provide them with education of international standard with knowledge of science and technology.”

Referring to the model parliament, he said: “I dream of a parliament like this where everyone has their logic and patience to listen to others as well.”

Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, chairman of Debate for Democracy, moderated the session.

The debate festival highlighted issues like girl child’s rights, female education and empowerment, maternal-death rate, prevention of sexual harassment, investment in the youth etc.
