Police released four leaders of the Biplobi Chhatra Moitri after arresting them from a human chain at Rajshahi University campus which they arranged to protest against sexual harassment yesterday.
The arrestees are President of the Biplobi Chhatra Moitri RU unit Prodip Mardi, General Secretary Dilip Roy, former president Sumon Agostin Saran, President of Chhatra Federation RU unit Faruk Imon.
Campus sources said activists and leaders of the students’ front had formed a human chain in front of the central library protesting recent sexual harassment incidents around 11am.
Then, Proctor Sirajul Islam along with a police team went to the spot and barred them from bringing out a procession.
At one stage of altercation, police took away banner from them and arrested four leaders of Biplobi Chhatra Moitri from the spot.
When contacted, the proctor said they had barred the students from bringing out a procession to keep congenial atmosphere on the campus.
Meanwhile, protesting the arrest the Biplobi Chhatra Moitri brought out a procession on the campus and demanded immediate release of them. Later, police released them on the wake of the protest. No case was filed against them.
