Bangladesh Chhatra League activists have assaulted and “stabbed” two students at Rajshahi University just months into their recent atrocities at the campus.
The victims Muhith and Imran Hossain, third year students of Islamic studies department, are attending treatments at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Injured Imran told the media that they were called to meet former campus unit joint secretary Abdus Salam at Bangabandhu Hall around 5:30pm on Sunday.
“Salam demanded money from Muhith and stabbed him with a knife. They assaulted us with hammers and hockey sticks,” he added.
Campus unit Chhatra League Organising Secretary Ashif Ahmed and Finance Secretary Raju Ahmed were also allegedly involved in the assault.
On-duty policemen rushed the two students to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 7pm. Witnesses said Muhith’s condition was grave.
Chhatra League leader Salam admitted the assault. “We caught two supporters of Islami Chhatra Shibir entering my room while I was sleeping.”
Rajshahi University Proctor Professor Tarikul Hasan said he was aware of the incident and added actions will be taken against those responsible after probe.
Concerned Motihar police Officer-in-Charge ABM Rezaul Haque also said he was aware of the incident. “Steps will be taken after investigation.”
On Friday, a Chhatra League faction said to have beat up another student Abdul Hannan who is now attending treatments at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
On Saturday, RU Chhatra Leauge Joint Secretary Golam Kibria assaulted and threatened another student at gun point over a previous feud.
The university authorities have formed a three-member probe body headed by Proctor Tarikul Hasan to investigate these events.
The proctor assured of proper actions after investigation.
Rajshahi University reopened on March 10, more than a month after Chhatra League pounced with guns on general students moving to lower tuition fees.
