Lalmonirhat Mozida Kahtun Women’s Government College is facing manifold problems, including a shortage of teachers and classrooms, causing serious hindrance to students’ education.
Currently, only 15 teachers out of the 34 provisionally stationed at the college are teaching about 1,500 students, said sources at the educational institute.
Incumbent students of the college are frustrated with the lack of facilities at the college while other students, who could have been admission candidates, are not interested in the college.
Moreover, students of the college are facing an accommodation crisis, as there are only eight classrooms.
The students said at least six students sit on a bench, while only three students would ideally sit on each bench. They claimed that this shortage of seats was a hinderance to their studies.
Students said they could not prepare for their lessons, as the library in the college did not have an adequate number of books.
The students also face mismanagement when borrowing books from library, as the college authority cannot appoint a librarian for lack of funds.
Golam Faruque, a lecturer in the English Department, said there should be two teachers for each discipline, yet the English, political science, accounting and management departments have only a single teacher each.
When contacted, Principal Shamim Ara said she had informed the education ministry about the problems several times, but that the authority had yet to take any action in this regard.
The education ministry should address the issue to ensure the quality of education for college students, she added.
