The government on Wednesday has appointed the pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) of Jahangirnagar University professor Dr MA Matin as the VC of the university on a temporary basis.
The Ministry of Education issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the notification, Professor Matin has been appointed as the VC of the university for 30-day on a temporary basis.
He would carry out his charges as the VC of Jahangirnagar University during the 30-day and the VC panel election would be held within the period, said the notice.
Earlier on January 13, Professor Anwar Hossain resigned as the vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University following a long-time agitation by a section of teachers and students.
Prof Anwar was the fifth vice-chancellor of the university.
On December 5, he took a five-day leave a in the face of relentless protests by teachers-students and a team of police escorted him out of the campus, upon directives from the government high-ups.
Later, he had rented a house in the capital's Uttara area and declared it as his temporary office.
