JSC, JDC exam schedules deferred again

Update : 09 Nov 2013, 05:28 AM

Three class eight final Junior School Certificate (JSC) and madrassa equivalent Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations have been deferred due to the opposition's 72-hour hartal which begins Sunday.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid made the deferral announcement at his Minto Road residence on Saturday morning.

The examinations scheduled for Sunday November 10 have been shifted to Thursday November 14 at 10am; those for Monday November 11 have been moved to Saturday November 16 at10am; and the exams scheduled for Tuesday November 12 will now be held on Thursday November 21 at 2pm.

This is the second time in recent weeks that school examinations have been postponed to a later date due to strikes.

“We have been forced to push back exam schedules because of this hartal,” minister Nahid said. “This is an attempt to break the backbone of education and the future of our children.”

He added with a grave tone that the deferral will have a big negative impact on the children.

“We can not put our children into the jaws of hartal brutality,” he said, referring to Monir Hossain, the 12-year-old boy who died from burn injuries sustained during the recent hartal violence.

Earlier, JSC and JDC exams which were supposed to be held on November 4 and November 6 were postponed to November 8 and November 9 respectively.
