The agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University have withdrew their movement unconditionally respecting the request of President Abdul Hamid.
General Teachers’ Forum, a platform of JU teacher which was staging movement demanding their VC’s removal, made the formal announcement of withdrawing the strike at a press conference Friday afternoon.
They also gave an ultimatum to the university authority to take initiative for holding the VC panel polls by Sunday.
On Thursday, President Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, asked the agitating teachers to withdraw their indefinite strike unconditionally so that the institution’s academic activities can continue.
The president also said Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain would take immediate steps to hold the senate elections and select the VC panel through the senate in line with the university act. The VC was also instructed to withdraw the writ petition filed against the agitating teachers, an education ministry press release said.
