Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Tuesday said four new subjects will be introduced in the Class VI curriculum from 2027.
“The new subjects are joyful learning, technical education, sports and culture. The four new subjects are being introduced in Class Six from 2027,” he said.
The minister made the announcement while responding to questions from journalists after inaugurating the 53rd National Summer Sports Competition at the Bhasha Shoinik Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium, Comilla, on Tuesday morning.
He said students need to be engaged in creativity, technical skills, sports and cultural activities alongside their academic studies from an early age.
The minister also said the curriculum would be changed and revised as necessary from 2028.
The government would also consider adding more books to the curriculum based on students’ needs and the demands of the times, he added.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin said the ongoing war in the Middle East had pushed up international prices of gas and fuel oil, affecting Bangladesh as well.
However, diesel prices in Bangladesh remain comparatively lower than in neighbouring and other surrounding countries, he said.
He said Bangladesh was providing higher subsidies on fuel than other countries in an effort to keep prices affordable.
The government is making every effort to address the crisis caused by the global situation, he added.
Mahdi Amin said the current crisis was not confined to any single country but was a global crisis.
He said the government was working to address the situation in a rational manner while keeping in mind the need to minimise the burden on the people.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher and Comilla-10 constituency lawmaker Md Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan were also present, among others.
Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Bangladesh, Dhaka, Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel chaired the event.
Students from schools, madrasas and technical education institutions under various education boards across Bangladesh are participating in the 53rd Summer National Sports Competition.
