Police blocked students marching toward the Ministry of Education at the Shikkha Bhaban intersection in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon as they demanded the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and raised a three-point set of demands.

The students reached the Shikkha Bhaban intersection at around 3:50pm. Police had already barricaded the road, preventing them from moving toward the ministry.

The protesters then staged a sit-in at the intersection, chanting slogans including "We want justice” and “Tumi ke, ami ke, farmer murgi.”

Police blocked the road after receiving information that the procession was heading toward the Ministry of Education from the Science Lab area.

Law enforcement personnel also took positions on roads leading to the Secretariat. Additional police were deployed on both sides of the Shikkha Bhaban intersection, while a water cannon was kept on standby.

Police also barricaded the road beside the National Press Club leading to the Secretariat, suspending public movement along the route.
