Protesting students on Tuesday night returned to the area in front of the parliament after being dispersed by police, halting traffic on Manik Mia Avenue once again.
The students began another sit-in shortly after 8pm in front of the National Parliament Building, blocking traffic on the road.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibn Mizan confirmed to Dhaka Tribune that the students had resumed their protest on the road.
Earlier in the evening, police used batons to disperse students who had been staging a sit-in in front of Parliament, demanding the resignation of the education minister.
The students later regrouped in front of the Aarong outlet on Manik Mia Avenue, where they allegedly hurled brickbats at police. Police chased them from that location as well.
The protesters had earlier marched from the Science Lab area to the Parliament premises, where they staged their initial sit-in.
According to reports, tensions escalated when a delegation of the protesting students was preparing to move toward the Parliament building. Police then launched a baton charge, dispersing the demonstrators. The students subsequently regrouped in front of Aarong before being chased away again.
The demonstrations began Tuesday morning, with HSC examinees blocking roads, holding processions, and forming human chains at different locations across the capital.
The protesters are demanding the education minister's resignation over the HSC examination schedule, the decision to hold examinations despite severe weather, the quality of question papers, and the minister's remarks referring to students as "farm chickens," which they described as insulting.
The protesters had earlier given the minister until 6pm to resign before moving their demonstration to the area in front of parliament.
