Calcutta University of West Bengal in India is going to organise the third International Congress of Bengal Studies on November 19 to 22 this year, Rafique Ullah Khan, convener of Bangladesh chapter of International Society of Bengal studies told Dhaka Tribune.
More than five hundred participants including scholars from different academic disciplines including humanities, arts and social sciences from different countries including Bangladesh, India and Pakistan are expected to participate in it and present papers on issues related to mainly Bangla language, literature and culture, the professor said.
Alokranjan Dashgupta, poet and Professor of Bangla, Heidelberg University, Germany, has been nominated as the academic president, Sucharita Banarjee the convener and Sanat Naskar general secretary of the congress.
Last time Dhaka University hosted the event in December, 2011 and Delhi University organised the first one in February, 2010.
The congress is seen as a professional platform for scholars of different centres of teaching and research. The idea was first took shape in 2008 in Assam University at Silchar in India.
