Dhaka University (DU) has extended the Torongo bus route up to Basila for students. Additionally, toll fees for students traveling on the expressway have been waived.
These announcements were made by Ducsu leaders at a press conference held on Thursday at the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) hall room.
Ducsu Transport Secretary Asif Abdullah said that several transport sector initiatives have been implemented as per the electoral manifesto. As part of this, two additional trips have been added to the Torongo bus route, extending it beyond Basila Bridge to the next stoppage. The service began on Thursday and will run regularly during morning and evening hours from next week.
He added that despite Khanika buses using the expressway to avoid heavy traffic congestion, students had to pay tolls until now. Following discussions based on student demands, the toll has been completely waived from Thursday. The toll amount will be paid through the university's transport office.
Ducsu VP Shadik Kayem said that ensuring accountability to students is Ducsu's goal. Continuing this commitment, a detailed press conference will be held soon regarding the progress of activities over the past four months.
He also informed that in response to students' long-standing demand, an initiative has been taken to start Saturday bus services. The necessary funds have been collected and Saturday bus operations will begin soon.
