Eden College students protest police action on Shahbagh demonstrators
Students of Eden Mohila College have staged a demonstration in front of their institution protesting against Thursday’s police action on Dhaka University-affiliated college students in Shahbagh.
The protesters blocked the Azimpur Road on Friday morning, disrupting traffic for about half an hour.
The Eden College students condemned police action and demanded compensation for the students injured on Thursday.Thursday’s clashAt least two students were injured during the clash with police on Thursday morning while staging a peaceful demonstration at Shahbagh intersection.
Protestors claim police charged without warning, while police sources said the protestors had thrown bricks and stones at them when police asked them to clear the road.
On Thursday afternoon, BCS General Education Association President IK Selim Khondoker confirmed that the exam schedule for the seven colleges have been finalised.Police have filed a case for attempted murder against 1,200 unknown persons over a clash at Dhaka’s Shahbagh with protesting students.
Shahbagh police station’s Inspector (investigation) Jafar Ali Biswas told the Dhaka Tribune the case was filed on Thursday night at the station by Sub-Inspector Mazharul Islam.
No one has been arrested in the case, he said.
Those who were held during the clash have been released after questioning.
Students of seven government colleges in Dhaka which have been recently formally affiliated with the Dhaka University staged the demonstration demanding that the dates for their pending Master’s and Honour’s exams be announced.
The seven colleges are: Government Titumir College, Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Mirpur Bangla College.
