Jagannath University (JnU) has announced a budget of Tk297.83 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year, marking a 48.17% increase compared to the revised and deficit-inclusive allocation for FY2024–25.
The operating and development budget was presented at the university's 102nd syndicate meeting on Monday, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rezaul Karim. The budget was placed by Treasurer Professor Dr Sabina Sharmin.
An allocation of Tk8.03 crore—roughly 2.7% of the total budget—has been reserved for research.
Of the proposed budget, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has allocated Tk187.82 crore, while the budget reflects a deficit of Tk110 crore.
From this deficit, the UGC has pledged Tk60 crore specifically for supplementary scholarships and temporary accommodation for students.
The remaining Tk50 crore deficit spans 31 different sectors, according to officials.
Treasurer Sabina Sharmin stated: “Compared to last year, our budget has increased by 48%. The supplementary scholarships proposed in the budget will require some time to be disbursed. Regardless of when we receive the funds, the scholarships will be effective from July. Additionally, our allocations in other sectors have also seen an increase.”
