A total of 14,738 students were absent on the first day of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations under the country’s nine general education boards. Additionally, 10 students were expelled.
The information was confirmed by the control room of the Ministry of Education.
The SSC and equivalent examinations began simultaneously across the country on Thursday. This year, a total of 1,334,630 students registered under the nine general education boards. Of them, 1,319,892 students sat for the exams while 14,738 were absent.
According to the Education Ministry’s control room, the Dhaka Education Board had 342,954 registered candidates, with 339,458 present and 3,496 absent.
In the Chittagong Education Board, out of 124,444 candidates, 123,271 attended the exam, while 1,173 were absent. The Rajshahi Education Board had 162,679 registered candidates, with 161,057 attending and 1,622 absent.
The Barisal Education Board saw 78,178 candidates, with 77,145 present and 1,033 absent. In the Sylhet Education Board, 82,992 students were registered, with 82,114 attending and 878 absent.
The Dinajpur Education Board had 167,606 candidates, with 166,265 present and 1,341 absent. In the Comilla Education Board, out of 149,588 candidates, 147,035 attended, and 2,553 were absent.
The Mymensingh Education Board registered 92,810 students, with 91,968 present and 842 absent. Finally, the Jessore Education Board had 133,379 candidates, with 131,579 attending the exams and 1,800 absent.
