Update : 25 Feb 2025, 03:52 PM

Schools across the country will go on a 40-day holiday, covering Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and several other holidays.

Heads of institutions have already announced the holidays, with notices posted in various schools in the capital.

The notices confirm that the holiday period will run from March 2 to April 8.

Additionally, as the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations are set to begin on April 10, schools that will serve as exam centres will remain closed for an extended period of two months and 10 days.

According to the academic calendar, holidays for Ramadan, Dol Jatra, Independence Day, Jummatul Wida, Shab-e-Qadr, and Eid-ul-Fitr will begin on March 2 and continue until April 8.

As Ramadan is expected to start on March 1 or 2, the last day of classes before the break will be February 27, since February 28 and March 1 fall on a Friday and Saturday, respectively. This means that educational institutions will remain closed for 40 consecutive days.

Md Yunus Faruqi, deputy director (Secondary) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), said the holiday period, including Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr, will last around 40 days in line with the government’s academic calendar. "This closure will apply to all government and private schools."

Meanwhile, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Deputy Director Nurul Haque Sikder said that per government directives, the last class before the Ramadan holiday in all government and private colleges will be held on Thursday, February 27.
