The 6th edition of JMC Media Buzz - Fall 2024 was held on Wednesday and Thursday at Daffodil Smart City by the Department of Journalism, Media, and Communication (JMC) at Daffodil International University (DIU).
Centered around the theme "New Media Bangladesh 2.0", the event explored the evolving landscape of digital engagement and its impact on the future of Bangladeshi media.
Day one set the tone with the National Photography Contest 2024 on the theme Bangladesh 2.0, judged by renowned photographers Tanmoy Das and Sumon Yusuf.
The afternoon brought excitement with the Triwizard Story Hunt, a competitive campus quest engaging participants in uncovering hidden narratives.
The second day featured a high-profile panel discussion on exploring new media and the rise of Bangladesh 2.0: the future of digital engagement.
Moderated by Department Head Dr Aftab Hossain, the panel included prominent voices such as filmmaker Raihan Rafi, storyteller Vicky Zahed, and senior journalist Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu.
Rafi discussed cinema as a tool for societal change, while Zahed emphasized the importance of media freedom for authentic storytelling. Mishu shared insights into the evolving role of star journalists.An interactive Q&A session was also held among the students and the professionals.
The day also showcased the national 120 Seconds Short Film Competition 2024, celebrating the creativity of young filmmakers. Attendees were captivated by the screening of Noya Manush, with the presence of renowned actress Moushumi Hamid, actor Rawnak Hasan, and singer Masha Islam. Their inspiring journey and a live Q&A session energized the audience, followed by a musical performance by Masha Islam.
Content creator Rafayat Rakib’s masterclass on the art of selling through edits was a major highlight, providing practical insights into creative editing and digital storytelling.
The event concluded with a grand prize-giving ceremony, honoring winners across various competitions, and a closing cultural performance by the DIU Band Society.
