Dhaka University (DU) has emerged as the top university in Bangladesh and advanced 28 steps in Asia, securing the 112th position in the latest QS Asia Rankings.
QS, a UK-based education and research organization, recently released its continent-wise rankings on its website.
A press release from Dhaka University's Public Relations Department confirmed the achievement, adding that the university also ranked 634th in the QS Sustainability World Rankings this year.
The QS Asia Rankings for 2024, published on November 6, evaluated 984 universities across the continent. Peking University in China topped the list, followed by the University of Hong Kong.
The rankings are based on 11 indicators, including academic reputation, research output, the number of PhD holders, and the ratio of international students.
From 2004 to 2009, the Times Higher Education magazine and QS jointly published university rankings. However, the two began releasing separate lists in 2010. Today, QS's rankings are widely recognized as one of the most credible measures of university performance worldwide.
Dhaka University's improvement in the QS rankings reflects its commitment to enhancing academic and research standards, the press release added.
