The authorities of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) have issued show-cause notices to 11 students over ragging allegations.

On Tuesday, separate notices were signed by Md Mahbubul Alam, Member Secretary of the Students’ Discipline Committee and Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare.

The accused students belong to the 2022-23 academic year from the Civil Engineering Department.

They are alleged to have harassed students from the 2023-24 academic year.

The notice said that on November 5, around 10:30pm, some 23rd batch students were allegedly harassed outside the main gate of Cuet, near Imam Ghazzali College.

A probe committee found the 11 students responsible for the incident, deeming their actions in violation of university discipline.

The notice demanded an explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against them under university regulations.

They were instructed to appear in person at the Directorate of Student Welfare by December 10 to respond.

Md Mahbubul Alam said: "New students need support upon joining. Ragging incidents are inhumane. The university administration maintains a strict stance against ragging. Based on the allegations, 11 students were asked to explain their actions. Appropriate measures will be taken after their responses."
