  • He warned of continued conspiracies
Update : 19 Nov 2024, 12:35 PM

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, the adviser for the ministries of local government as well as youth and sports, said that the mass uprising of 2024 has only been partially successful.

Speaking at a discussion titled "New Eyes: Mass Uprising and Future Bangladesh" held at Jahangirnagar University on Monday night, he said: "Our one-point demand was the ousting of Sheikh Hasina and the abolition of the fascist system. While Sheikh Hasina's regime has ended, the fascist system has not been entirely dismantled."

The event, organized by the Jahangirnagar University branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Monday, began with speeches from families of martyrs and a documentary screening about the university.

In his address, Asif warned of continued conspiracies: "The Awami League is still being plotted for political rehabilitation at national and international levels. Under the guise of democracy, efforts are being made to include them in elections again."

He also criticized foreign influence, noting: "Various embassies are pressuring to ensure Awami League's participation in elections, despite calls for their ban. I was asked by a German journalist if banning Awami League poses a threat to democracy. I reminded them that the Nazi Party was outlawed in 1945 and remains so to this day. Bangladesh Awami League deserves a similar fate."

Highlighting government initiatives for the injured in the movement, Asif said: "The government will bear the treatment costs for those injured during the uprising. Professor Saidur Rahman, holding ministerial rank in the Ministry of Health, has been appointed to oversee their medical care and rehabilitation."

Addressing the audience, lawyer Manzoor Al Mateen emphasized the importance of accountability in governance: "We all want fair elections and a system of accountability. Those in power must answer to the people. We demand a system that ensures justice for all, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or ideology. On these fundamental questions, we stand united."
