Update : 02 Sep 2013, 08:37 AM

The Education Ministry has formed a two-member committee to investigate the movement of a section of Jahangirnagar University teachers demanding the removal of its Vice-Chancellor Professor Anwar Hossain.

The ministry issued the order on Monday which says the investigation aims to resolve the existing situation and create an atmosphere for education at the university.

Dr Muhibur Rahman, a member of university grants commission, has been made convenor of the committee. Joint secretary Ahsanul Zabbar has been assigned position of another member of the committee.

The committee has been asked to submit a report in 15 working days.

In the wake of the confinement of the VC in his office by agitating teachers, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid initiated a talk with the teachers on August 24 where the minister promised to investigate the incident and take proper action accordingly.

However, the teachers lifted their blockade at the VC’s office with a promise from the minister. The university then resumed its normal course.
