Jagannath University students have held a protest rally condemning the killing of Bangladeshis by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border.
The protest march started from the Shanto Chottor of the university, went around the Science Faculty and Arts Building, and stood in front of the main gate on Tuesday afternoon.
Yasin Piash, a Journalism student, said: "The BSF is giving the excuse of killing Bangladeshis on the border, that they are doing this to eradicate various illegal smuggling, but it is completely unreasonable. Most of those dying at the border are farm labourers from the nearby border areas. The brutality that India is displaying is truly deplorable. I demand a speedy trial.”
Another student, Faisal, said: “They have broken our patience by killing on the border. They need to be held accountable as soon as possible. And we will request the interim government to provide financial assistance to the families of those who are being killed on the border.”
Swarna Das, 14, was shot dead by BSF in the Kulaura border area of Moulvibazar on Sunday night. Another Bangladeshi, Jayanta Kumar Singha, was killed on the Thakurgaon border on Sunday.
Earlier, 15-year-old Felani Khatun was killed in the early hours of January 7, 201,1, while returning with her father through the Anantapur border in Kurigram.
