Prof Dr SMA Faiz has been appointed as the new chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), according to the University Grants Commission Act, 1973.
The order was issued on Thursday.
Dr Faiz, a former professor and vice-chancellor at Dhaka University and ex-chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, will serve a four-year term.
He will be entitled to a salary, allowances, and benefits as per current regulations.
The appointment takes effect from his joining date.
