The Barisal University (BU) has included the controversial comment of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina regarding Razakar and the freedom fighter’s grandchildren in the question paper for the linguistics test at the Department of Bangla.
The screenshot of the question paper, prepared by Associate Professor Sanjay Kumar Sarkar, is now going viral on social media and is being heavily criticised.
During a press conference at Sheikh Hasina’s residence on July 14, the prime minister was asked about her views on privileges in government jobs. She responded, saying: “If the grandchildren of freedom fighters do not receive (quota) benefits, who would get it? The grandchildren of Razakars?”
The statement was mentioned in the question paper on “Swara-tarango” (waveform in English) and an explanation was sought from the third-year students on Wednesday.
Explaining the context, Sanjay Kumar Sarkar said: “‘Swara-tarango’ usually uses words to emphasize one particular word in a sentence. For example, here the emphasis is placed on the word Razakar.”
A third-year student of the department said that the sentence is a practical example of vowels. With the help of such real examples, students can think afresh about the subject.
