Professor Md Sayedur Rahman has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Prior to this appointment, he served as the chairman of the Department of Pharmacology at BSMMU.
The appointment was confirmed in a notification signed by Mohammad Kamal Hossain, assistant secretary of the Medical Education-1 Branch of the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, issued on Tuesday.
According to the notification, Prof Sayedur Rahman’s tenure as vice-chancellor will be for four years. He will receive a salary equivalent to his current position and will continue in the role of vice-chancellor after completing his formal retirement from his original post.
As per the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Act, 1998, he will also enjoy other related benefits and fulfil his duties in accordance with Section 14 of the Act.
The notification further mentioned that the president and chancellor of the university retain the authority to terminate the appointment if necessary.
The order, issued in the public interest, is effective immediately.
