Miscreants vandalized the sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with the photo and nameplate at the main gate of Comilla University.

The incident occurred following the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation as the prime minister and her departure from the country on Monday.

Witnesses reported that after Sheikh Hasina's resignation, locals marched onto the campus on foot, motorcycles, and trucks.

University branch leaders of the Chhatra Dal and BNP were seen among them.

The group first vandalized Bangabandhu's photo and nameplate at the university's main gate.

Subsequently, they broke the legs of the Bangabandhu sculpture located in front of the administration building. A necklace of shoes was placed around the sculpture's neck, and a rope was hung as a noose.

Attempts to demolish the sculpture continued until midnight on Monday, but it has not been completely dismantled yet.

In addition, a procession led by Chhatra Dal leaders took place on the university campus, ending in front of Bangabandhu Hall through Shaheed Minar.

During this time, the name "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall" was defaced with mud mixed with water.

Later that night, "Bijoy 24" was spray-painted over the name of the hall.

Chhatra Dal leaders also raided the university dormitory intending to attack section officer and former Chhatra League leader Rezaul Islam Majed, only to find out that Majed had already left the university area.

Abdullah Al Mamun, convener of Comilla University Chhatra Dal, said: "We were present there. Many people entered the university with us. Now, I cannot say who vandalized these things. We want none of us to be involved in such activities."

Comilla University Proctor Dr Kazi Omar Siddiqui commented: "I have heard that some outsiders have vandalized the premises. We will look into the matter. All parties must work together to maintain a peaceful environment in the university."
