A memorandum of understanding was signed yesterday between Dhaka University's Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS), Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in order to promote research, knowledge management and humanitarian diplomacy in disaster management.
The university's treasurer Dr Md Kamal Uddin, IFRC delegation chief Tsehalyou Seyoum, and BDRCS secretary general BMM Mozharul Huq signed the agreement.
DU vice chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the BDRCS and IFRC for signing the MoU with IDMVS pointing out that Bangladesh is the most vulnerable country for both natural and man-made disasters.
He hoped the MOU would be helpful to strengthen disaster management activities in DU as well as in the rest of Bangladesh and create an effective and skilled workforce in the field.
Bangladesh Open University pro-VC Dr. Khondokar Mukaddem Hossain, IDMVS director Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, and DU's acting registrar Syed Rezaur, also attended the simple ceremony at the VC's office.
