  • Outdoor activities limited
  • BMD extended the heat alert for the fourth time
Update : 28 Apr 2024, 03:35 PM

Secondary schools and colleges reopened on Sunday, which were closed due to the ongoing heatwave across Bangladesh.

However, daily assemblies at these institutions remained suspended until the heatwave became tolerable, according to a notice issued by the Ministry of Education.

Moreover, other outdoor activities will be restricted at the educational institutions.

The notice also said classes will be held on Saturdays until further notice to compensate for the education losses caused by the closure.

Many guardians opposed school reopenings because of the heat, fearing the children would fall ill.

Teachers said the students who are attending classes are uncomfortable and restless due to the scorching heat.

The schools and colleges were scheduled to open on April 21 after the end of the Eid holidays but the closure was extended till April 27 due to sweltering heat across the country.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday extended the heat alert that the ongoing heatwave is likely to persist for 72 more hours starting Sunday morning.

This announcement follows earlier alerts issued on April 19, April 22, and April 25, as the BMD continues to monitor and respond to the challenging weather patterns affecting the region.

Meanwhile, primary and secondary schools and colleges reopened today after a long break that included the Eid holidays, Pahela Baishakh, and a week off due to the scorching temperatures.
