The high schools and colleges are set to open next Sunday after an extended holiday due to the ongoing heatwave.
The information was revealed in a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Thursday.
However, the ministry outlined some preventive measures to ensure the safety of students amid the extreme weather.
Daily assemblies will remain suspended until the heat wave becomes tolerable.
Besides, other activities at these educational institutions that are done outside the classrooms or require sun exposure will remain limited.
Additionally, educational institutions will remain open every Saturday from May 4 till further instructions to meet the learning deficit and achieve learning results as per the new curriculum, the notice said.
Earlier, Professor Shahedul Khabir Chowdhury, director (Administration and Colleges) of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, said the decision was taken as the temperature is fluctuating across different areas of the country. Additionally, this is not the highest temperature ever recorded in Bangladesh.
That is why preparations have been taken to open all educational institutions, he said.
The schools and colleges were scheduled to open on April 21 after the end of Eid holidays, but the closure was extended until April 27 due to sweltering heat across the country caused by heatwave.
According to a bulletin of Bangladesh Metrological Department, the ongoing heatwave may persist for 72 hours starting Thursday morning.
The highest temperature of the country was recoded at 42.4°C in Jessore on Thursday. The 72-hour alert will end on Sunday morning.
