The authorities of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) campus have imposed a ban on organizing iftar parties at the campus during Ramadan.
This instruction was given in a press release signed by the acting registrar of the university on Monday morning.
The notification said: "In view of the directives of the prime minister, all concerned of this university have been requested not to organize Iftar party in the campus during the upcoming month of Ramadan."
Copies of the notification have been sent to all the concerned offices including the treasurer of the university, deans of various faculties, heads of departments, directors of various institutes, library administrators, proctors, director of accounts, controller of examinations.
When contacted, the proctor professor Dr Kamruzzaman said that there is a directive from the PM not to hold Iftar parties during Ramadan.
In the light of this directive, Iftar parties have been banned in the campus.
However, the authorities will not have any restrictions on organizing Iftar parties outside the campus, said the proctor.
Earlier on February 28, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed not to organize large Iftar parties at the government-level during the upcoming Ramadan.
She instructed while chairing the Cabinet meeting at her office in the city.
“There is an instruction from the prime minister and that is, no big iftar party can be arranged officially during the month of Ramadan,” said Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain.
She also discouraged the arrangement of large iftar parties at the private level.
