Dhaka University authorities have two probe bodies to look into allegations, including of sexual harassment, against Naadir Junair, a professor at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism.

The formation of the committees came at a meeting of the DU Syndicate on Sunday.

One of them is a fact-finding committee, which will investigate allegations of sexual harassment and emotional abuse brought against the professor by a female student of the department and another female student at a private university in the capital, where he taught as a guest teacher.

The head of the committee is Prof Shima Zaman, dean of the Faculty of Law. The other two members are Prof Masudur Rahman, provost of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, and Sanchita Guha, assistant proctor of the university.

The committee has two weeks to submit its report to the syndicate, which will then be sent to DU’s sexual assault prevention cell.

The second committee will investigate allegations of bad results of postgraduate students of the department's 12th batch due to personal grudges.

The head of the committee is Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Sitesh Chandra Bachar. The other members are Prof Abul Mansur Ahmed, chairperson of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism as well as a syndicate member, and Bahalul Hoque Chowdhury, controller of examinations.

In the face of strong protests by journalism students, the Dhaka University administration last month sent Prof Naadir on forced three-month leave.
