Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel has said that the government has taken initiatives to appoint diploma engineers as teachers of mathematics and science to meet the teacher crisis to implement the new curriculum at the secondary level.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a conference at the Institution of Diploma Engineers’s (IDB) auditorium on Saturday.
The education minister said: “To resolve the teacher crisis, it is necessary to employ diploma engineers and increase their participation in the current curriculum's education philosophy of activity-based learning, given our needs. Diploma engineers can employed as teachers in mathematics and science.
“According to our new curriculum, many teachers of mathematics and science are needed in private educational institutions. Considering the qualification of teachers, the diploma engineers who have graduated have almost all the qualifications to teach mathematics and science at the school level. We believe that there is a shortage of about 60,000 teachers in mathematics and science. If we can specifically engage our diploma engineers there, we will be able to face a huge challenge. That is under our consideration,” he further said.
