Save the Children’s SHIFT campaign launched in Barisal

With the slogan “Power of the Youth for Positive Change'', today the ‘SHIFT’ campaign was launched in the Bakerganj upazila of Barisal to address the barriers to girls’ higher education. 

With the financial and technical support of Save the Children and the leadership, planning, and management of the youths of Bakerganj upazila, this awareness campaign has been inaugurated on Tuesday to address the issue of girls entering higher education.  

Under the leadership of youths who are 14–25 years old, this SHIFT campaign will be run in eight schools of four unions in Bakerganj upazila. 

The local volunteer youths have identified the problems in their locality and then determined how they can be fixed. Save the Children and Saint Bangladesh have stood by them to help them in this regard. 

The main focus of the campaign is on empowering youths aged 14–25 to solve social problems and providing them with technical assistance as well.

The guests in attendance explained that the SHIFT campaign provides a platform for aspiring youth volunteers, allowing them to put their all into realizing their full capabilities and find ways to address major societal challenges and effect meaningful change through their active engagement.

During the opening ceremony at the Bakerganj Upazila Parishad Hall, Sajal Chandra Sheel, the UNO of Bakerganj upazila, delivered a speech. 

Additional attendees included Sanjida Rikta, AC Lands; Dr Shankar Prasad Adhikari, upazila health and planning officer; Tapan Kumar Das, upazila secondary education officer; Md Delwar Hossain, upazila youth development officer; Khan Shamim Parvez, upazila women affairs officer; and SM Maksudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bakreganj police station. 

Md Zahidul Hasan, the chairman of Rangashree union; Md Faisal Wahid, the chairman of Kalaskathi union; SM Qayum Khan, the chairman of Garuria union; and eight secondary school headmasters and assistant teachers from Garuria, Rangashree, Padrishibpur, and Kalaskathi Union also attended the program as invited guests.
