Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal has been named as the 29th vice-chancellor of the university.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin, also the Chancellor of Dhaka University, appointed Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal as the new VC as Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman's tenure is going to expire on November 2.
The education ministry issued a notification on Sunday in this regard.
The order will be effective from November 4.
Prof Kamal of the Disaster Science and Management department was appointed as the pro-VC (academic) of the university in 2020. Maksud Kamal is the founder chairman of the department.
Prof Kamal, elected dean of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty in 2012, was elected president of the Duta (Dhaka University Teachers’ Association) four consecutive times.
He was also the convener of Blue Panel, an Awami League-backed teacher organization, at the university.
Maksud Kamal was a member of the senate and syndicate of the University. He was also the provost of Surja Sen Hall for two terms.
Apart from this, he is the president of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association.
He joined Dhaka University as a lecturer in 2000 and was promoted to professor in 2010.
