The latest World University Rankings for 2024, released by Times Higher Education (THE), have revealed that no Bangladeshi university made it to the top 800 institutions on the list.
This ranking was made public on Wednesday, unveiling that four Bangladeshi universities secured positions in the 801-1000 range.
The institutions in this range include Brac University, Dhaka University (DU), Jahangirnagar University (JU), and North South University (NSU).
Furthermore, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet), and Rajshahi University (RU) were placed in the 1001-1200 bracket.
Khulna University (KU) and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) found themselves in the 1201-1500 range.
The top ten universities in the 2024 rankings are as follows: 1. Oxford University 2. Stanford University 3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 4. Harvard University 5. University of Cambridge 6. Princeton University 7. California Institute of Technology 8. Imperial College London 9. University of California, Berkeley 10. Yale University.
Notably, a record number of Indian universities made an appearance in the latest Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2024.
India's top-ranked Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, reclaimed its spot in the global top 250, falling within the 201-250 range, a position it has not held since 2017. The list now features an unprecedented 91 Indian institutions.
In the previous year's rankings, DU and NSU were the highest-ranking Bangladeshi universities, falling within the 601-800 range.
THE World University Rankings is widely regarded as one of the most prominent university ranking systems globally.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024 encompass 1,904 universities spanning across 108 countries and regions.
The rankings are based on the new WUR 3.0 methodology, which assesses institutions using 18 meticulously calibrated performance indicators that evaluate an institution's performance across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry connections, and international outlook.
