The police have searched two student dormitories of Chittagong University, following a factional clash of Chhatra League in the last two days, recovering several locally made weapons in the process.

The search of Shah Jalal Hall and Shah Amanat Hall, led by the university proctorial body, started at midnight on Friday and lasted about an hour.

However, the police did not make any detentions in connection with the recovery of the weapons.

Earlier, on Wednesday and Thursday, activists of CFC and Sixty-Nine, two groups of CU Chhatra League, locked into clashes.

At least 22 people including the proctor, assistant proctor and police officers were injured in the skirmishes.

The CFC group, supporters of CU Chhatra League President Rezaul Haque Rubel, is dominant at the Shah Amanat Hall, and the Sixty-Nine group, supporters of General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Tipu, dominates Shah Jalal Hall.

Arup Barua, assistant proctor of the university, said: 'We have conducted the search to prevent any untoward incident. No one has been detained so far. However, we recovered several iron rods, cricket stumps and weapons from the halls. The situation is under control now. Additional forces have been deployed on the campus.”
