To meet the food demand, students set up a new tong shop called 'Chashabhushar Tong’

Update : 31 Jan 2022, 04:36 PM

The protesting students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) will organize a songwriting session on Sunday night.

Shahriar Abedin, an agitating student, confirmed the matter in the afternoon.

He said the students were going to organize the session as part of their movement to demand the resignation of the vice chancellor who helped the police attack on the unarmed students o January 16.

At the same time, the students have started rebuilding the evicted tongs at different places on the campus on their own initiative since Saturday.

“Tong shops were being set up initially at five places inside the university campus,” Shahriar added.

In March 2020, when the Covid-19 outbreak occurred in Bangladesh, the university was declared closed along with the tong shops.

Later, when the university was opened, three out of 15 tong shops and food courts were opened and the rest were removed. The administration also said that more food courts would be set up in a new way.

Meanwhile, when the anti-VC movement started, the administration closed the university hall, cafeteria, food court and tong shop again.

To meet the food demand of the agitating students, the students set up a new tong shop called “Chashabhushar Tong”.

The students said that they would continue the movement for the resignation of the VC through cultural activities even though they have left the hunger strike on Wednesday.
