Update : 06 Jan 2022, 10:10 AM

The government has decided to continue online lottery admission system in schools to enrol students to stop the unhealthy competition in examinations and coaching centre business.

Education Minister Dipu Moni made the announcement while inaugurating government secondary school admissions for the academic year of 2022 at International Mother Language Institution on Wednesday.

The minister said: “We won't return to previous admission system that created unhealthy competition among students.”

The online admission lottery system also eliminated the rampant coaching centre businesses, she said.

Many parents would influence the school authorities to enrol their children, but it has stopped now, the minister added.

If anyone is found involved in charging extra fee during the admission procedure, legal action will be taken against them, the minister warned.

The minister said the students who would not get admission to the government schools can get enrolled in private schools.

A total of 538,153 students applied against 800,017 vacant seats in 405 government school across the country.

The digital lottery for admission of the students at private schools will be held on December 19.
