The High Court has ordered Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) authorities in Dhaka to admit 19 pairs of twins in class one in the 2021 academic year.
A virtual bench comprising Justice M Inayetur Rahim and Justice Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday after hearing a writ petition.
Barrister Tasmia Pradhan argued for the writ petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.
The petitioner’s counsel told the court that it was important for the twins to stay together for healthy mental growth and development.

“Their needs are almost the same. I also have twins of my own. If they are given something different or kept in a different environment, they suffer from mental problems. It has a bad effect on them,” she added.
Earlier, the 19 pairs of twins applied for admission in class one in the 2021 academic year.
One of them was selected for admission through the lottery but the other did not. Therefore, the parents of the twins applied to the school authorities and the Ministry of Education seeking a solution.
Since the authorities did not take any action, a writ petition was filed on Monday on behalf of the guardians of the twins by Engineer Abdullah and Kabir Mahmud challenging the authorities' inaction and seeking directions for the admission of the twins.
