British Council celebrates EDGE programme success

The British Council organised an International Women's Day celebration on Friday to share the success of its English and Digital for Girls’ Education (EDGE) programme. The EDGE programme, which was started in 2012, focuses on enhancing girls’ English proficiency, digital and 21st century skills, awareness of social issues and improving their leadership skills. Since its inception, the programme has opened 364 after-school clubs and trained 799 peer group leaders to facilitate these clubs for over 8973 participants. The programme is being operated in nine districts – Manikganj, Tangail, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sylhet, Chittagong, Khulna, Narshingdi, and Mymensingh.The British Council has organised an event to share the success of its EDGE programme Courtesy The British Council has organised an event to share the success of its EDGE programme Courtesy“Ensuring gender equality through educating and empowering women is an important part of our activities pertaining to cultural relations. The EDGE programme has proven highly effective in empowering women and girls in Bangladesh,” said Barbara Wickham, director of British Council. Ministry of Woman and Children Affairs Secretary Nasima Begum attended as chief guest and British High Commission Deputy High Commissioner David Ashley was present as special guest, along with other eminent guests.
