A Dhaka University teacher has been suspended after Masters students claimed to have been shown "obscene materials" in his Gender and Development classes.
"The decision to suspend development studies Professor Dr Md Reazul Haque was taken at the university's February 27 Syndicate meeting," Pro-VC (admin) Prof Aktaruzzaman said.
A committee has been formed to look into the allegations.
Dr Reazul told the Dhaka Tribune that he had not got any official letter from the authorities.
"I taught a course on gender and development to the Masters (evening) intake.
“The exams were completed by December and the results have also been published. None of the 15 students, all of whom are Bangladesh Bank officials, ever complained to me during the classes about the audiovisual and other contents I showed them in the classes,” he added.
DU Professor Aktaruzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune on Friday that a five-member investigation body, headed by Pro-VC (education) Prof Nasreen Ahmed, had been formed to investigate the matter.
