Textbooks for Chakma, Marma and Tripura children in their languages

The nationwide distribution of government-issued textbooks for 2018 started on the first day of the New Year. Children from the Chakma, Marma, and Tripura ethnic groups in Rangamati received textbooks in their mother languages for the second year in a row. As pledged by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 25,000 pre-primary and first grade students in the Chittagong Hill Tracts received textbooks printed in their languages on the first day of 2018. The highly acclaimed initiative was first introduced in 2017. Rangamati Government Girls’ High School and Rangamati Bonorupa Government Primary School were the first venues to commence the distribution of the free textbooks. Rangamati Hill District Council Chairman Brisha Ketu Chakma inaugurated the distribution on Monday morning. Students who received these special textbooks were delighted by the sight of their alphabets in official text printed exclusively for them. According to Rangamati Primary Education Officer Rowshan Ali, the government will distribute 250,000 primary and secondary level textbooks in ethnic languages in Rangamati this year.
