Nahid: Refund extra SSC fees in 7 days or face the music

Update : 03 Feb 2016, 07:29 AM

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has ordered schools that have charged SSC candidates extra tuition and registration fees to return the money to their students within seven days.

The minister warned of dire repurcussions for schools that failed to reimburse their students.

“The schools which have charged extra registration and tuition fees from the SSC candidates will have to refund the money within seven days,” he said at a press briefing at his secretariat office on Wednesday afternoon.

“The governing bodies and monthly pay orders of institutions that fail to refund the money in the due time will be cancelled,” he added.

Nahid directed education boards to submit reports regarding the refund of the extra fees after the deadline passes.

Some 1,651,523 students from 28,119 educational institutions will take the Secondary School Certificate exams this year.

There have been complaints that some schools had charged extra fees for tuition and for SSC registration.

Last year, the High Court ordered the government to require schools that had charged additional fees to return the money to their students.
