CU suspends 3 students for JMB involvement

The Chittagong University authorities have suspended three students who are the members of banned militant group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and were arrested with firearms on Sunday.

They are Naimur Rahman alias Noyon, Md Shawkat Rasel and Faisal Mahmud. They all are students of physics department.

CU Registrar Prof Dr Kamrul Huda confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

"They might get their studentship back if they are proven innocent in legal battle," he added.

The three JMB members were arrested in different areas of the port city by the Detective Branch (DB) members on Sunday.

After arresting the three, DB officials raided a JMB den in Aman Bazar area and recovered American semiautomatic MK 11 sniper rifle along with 250 rounds, two magazines, 10 detonators, 12 sets of Bangladesh Army uniforms, and some books and other documents.
