The teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) who are on protest demanding resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan have kept their programme for second consecutive day on Tuesday.
As part of their move, they locked the administrative building and the VC office around 8am. However, the VC has been staying in his bunglaw to shun any untoward incident, report campus sources.
When asked, Jalalabad police station OC Akhter Hossain acknowledged it, saying “Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbhuddo Sikkhak Forum” Convenor Prof Dr Sayed Shamsul Alam led the today's movement and he finally along with some 27 teachers took position in front of the VC office.
In this regard, economics department and also the forum's President Associate Professor Faruk Uddin said they would continue their protest for 4pm for the day and they have remained sincere so that their move could not harm to class and examinations
On the other hand, Sylhet city unit Awami League president and also former Sylhet City Corporation mayor Badar Uddin Ahmad Kamran on Monday afternoon talked to the protesting teachers and the VC.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presently has been staying in the USA and the both sides were advised to be alert to deteriorating law and order situation before his return, says Faruk Uddin quoting the former mayor.
The tension erupted on the SUST campus on April 13 when 19 teachers from its physics department and geography and environment department went to hold a talk with the VC over space allocation between the departments.
On the face of the protest, the VC on April 23 went on a two-month leave.
